Cleaning business name generator

Add your name or town, pick a style and get cleaning business name ideas in a click. Each one links to a Companies House search, so you can see whether a company is already using it before you print anything.

Names with a person in them feel trustworthy.
Helps local clients see you cover them.

Names are suggestions only. A name appearing here does not mean it is free to use.

How to choose a cleaning business name

  1. Say it out loud. Most of your work will come by word of mouth and phone. If you have to spell it, pick another.
  2. Make it obvious what you do. "Cleaning", "Housekeeping" or "Clean" in the name saves you explaining it on every flyer.
  3. Check nobody local is using it. Search Google, Facebook and Google Maps for cleaners near you with the same or a similar name.
  4. Check Companies House and trade marks. A limited company cannot use a name that is the same as, or too like, one already registered, and no business can use someone else's registered trade mark.
  5. Check the web address and social handles. A matching .co.uk and Facebook page name make you easier to find.
  6. Leave room to grow. "Sam's Ironing" is hard to stretch into office cleaning two years on.

Sole trader or limited company? A sole trader can trade under a business name without registering it, but must not use "limited" or "Ltd" and must show their own name alongside the business name on invoices and letters. This is general guidance, not legal advice: GOV.UK has the current naming rules.

Questions people ask

Can I use any name for my cleaning business?

As a sole trader you can trade under a business name without registering it, but it must not include "limited", "Ltd", "LLP" or "plc", must not be offensive, and must not be the same as an existing registered trade mark. Some sensitive words need permission. GOV.UK sets out the rules under "Set up as a sole trader".

Do I need to register my cleaning business name?

A sole trader does not register a business name, but you must register for Self Assessment with HMRC. If you set up a limited company, you register the company name with Companies House, and it cannot be the same as, or too like, an existing company name.

How do I check a name is not already taken?

Search the Companies House register for companies with the same or a similar name, search the Intellectual Property Office trade mark register, then search Google and Facebook for cleaners near you using it. The generator links each name straight to a Companies House search.

Should I put my town in my cleaning business name?

It helps local customers see at once that you cover their area. The trade-off is that it can feel limiting if you later expand to other towns. Do not add a town or keywords to your Google Business Profile name unless they are part of your real trading name.

What goes on my paperwork once I have a name?

A sole trader trading under a business name must show their own name and the business name on official paperwork such as invoices and letters. A limited company must show its registered name.
